Eligibility
Students with a B.Sc degree in Biotechnology (seven units of biotechnology) or 3 units of Biotechnology at the T.Y.B.Sc in combination with 3 units of any other major subjects are eligible for this course. Admission to the course will be purely on marks
Admission Process
St. Xavier’s College – Autonomous, the University of Mumbai, runs BA, BSc, and BCom Government Aided Degree Courses on Campus. The College also runs the BMM, BMS, BSc I.T. and MSc. Biotechnology Degree Courses on a Self-Financing Basis. The University of Mumbai awards degrees for these courses.
Certificate or Diploma courses on Clinical Research, Forensic Science, Criminal Investigation, Global Development, and Biotechnology & Enterprise are also held in collaboration with other Institutions or groups. Details of admission for these courses are available elsewhere on this website.
Admissions for most degree courses, except those explicitly specified (the BMM and BMS), are done on the basis of the overall percentage of Marks scored in the Qualifying Examination. If the Qualifying Examination awards Grades, these are converted into percentages according to a scale provided by the University of Mumbai.
The College is a Catholic Minority College, administered under the Provisions of the Indian Constitution, to promote the welfare of the Minority community and to extend its services to all other communities in India, so as to contribute to the harmony and integration of Indian society. 50% of seats are reserved for Catholic Minority students. As per the directives of the Government of Maharashtra, there is also a reservation for Special category students and for Backward Class students. The rest of the seats are for students from the General Category.
Applications for Admissions to the BA, BSc, BSc I.T., and MSc Biotechnology courses are done online through a facility on this website, located on the Homepage. This facility will be available from the 1st of May 2011 till 3 days after the declaration of the results of the 12th/BSc respectively, in Mumbai. This date is uncertain and is normally in the first part of June. Admissions will actually be done on days to be announced, through an interview of the candidate and one parent/guardian, of those notified on the website, on the College Notice board and through an email, as being offered admission.
Applications for Admissions to the BMS and BMM courses are done online, and the admission process includes an Entrance Exam and Interview. Please look up the details on the Home Page of this website. Online applications for these two courses are accepted from the 1st of May to the 1st of June 2011.
Admissions to the B.Com course are done through the College office, by filling up and submitting a form for the same, and through an interview with the Vice Principal of the Commerce section or his representative. The Commerce Section holds classes in the late evening from 5.50 pm to 9.20 pm. It is not meant for the regular student. It is specially designed to offer higher education to working students of a disadvantaged background.
