Terna Engineering College
BE in Mechatronics Engineering
Full Time CourseThe term Mechatronics was first used by Japanese engineers in the mid sixties to signify a combination of mechanical and electronics principles in product design. There are many formal definitions of the term available in open literature but the one that is most commonly used is "Synergistic Combination of precision mechanical engineering, electronic control, and intelligent software in a systems framework, used in the design of products and manufacturing processes." More simply stated, Mechatronics is "Designing intelligent or smart machines." Robots are probably one the earliest and most well known examples of mechatronic systems. At the current time mechatronics principles are in use in a variety of fields including automotive, aerospace, power generation, personal communication, automation, manufacturing, healthcare, and others. It is now becoming common practice to include some courses in mechatronics in the traditional electrical and mechanical engineering programs.
The specific objectives of this program are:
Develop a strong understanding of the fundamentals of mechanical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, software engineering, and control systems in a synergistic framework. Design, develop and implement intelligent engineered products and processes to solve challenging technological problems or meet specific human needs effectively using a variety of innovation methods. Develop innovative approaches and an entrepreneurial mind set to problem solving.
Mission:To enable our students to apply technical knowledge for finding creative and optimal solutions to real life problems using interdisciplinary approach.
Vision: To pioneer engineering education by inculcating an interdisciplinary approach to system design and cultivate engineers and technology managers for the future.
Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) of UG Course (B.E.) :
To prepare learners with a strong foundation in mathematical, scientific and engineering fundamentals for solving engineering problems. To prepare learners to identify, analyze and solve engineering problems related to mechatronics engineering. To enable the learners in building technology systems through interdisciplinary approach. To prepare the learners to use modern tools embedding different disciplines of engineering in order to solve real life problems (especially in domains such as product/process development, automation, real time control, manipulation in hostile environment etc). To develop the ability of learners to synthesize data and technical concepts for innovative product design and process automation using concurrent design approach. To prepare the learner for career in Indian and Multinational Organizations and to excel in their Postgraduate studies. Furthermore to encourage and motivate the art of self-learning. Program Outcomes (POs) of UG Course (B.E.):
An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering to solve technical problems. An ability to find creative solutions to real life problems using concurrent approach to engineering design. An ability to design technology systems using interdisciplinary approach. Skills to use modern engineering equipments tools and software to analyze and solve problems. Leadership, professional and ethical attitude and ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form. An Ability to upgrade knowledge through self education and understand the need for lifelong learning.
