This institute originally was started as Industrial School and attached to Tamilnadu Polytechinc, Madurai under the control of Director of Industries and commerce, Madras.

Then this Institute was elevated as Government Industrial Training Institute under the control of Director of Employment and Training, Madras.

Now this Industrial Training Institute is functioning at this permanent building with effect from 04.09.1961.

In order to promote skilled personnel, this Industrial Training Institute was started for importing training to students under Craftsmen Training Scheme as per G.O.Ms.NO: 1134 Industries & Commerce Department dated 2.9.1959.

This Institute was awarded the ISO CERTIFICATE during the year 2008 by Messrs. TUV SUD south Asia private Limited, Mumbai on 13.04.2009. Certificate Registration No. 99 100 10789/02.

This certificate is awarded for having established and applied a Quality Management System for providing technical training courses as per NCVT, SCVT and DGET guidelines.
