The department of Technical Education was established in 1948 to provide technical Manpower & experts in various technological branches This Department was responsible for administration and control of various training programmes pertaining to engineering colleges, polytechnic, ITIs, Technical Schools, Government Industrial Training workshop and other certificate courses concerned with Vocational and Technical Training. In the last two decades the demand of technical manpower was its peak. Hence in order of match the supply of skilled man power requirement, the government took the liberal decision to start various governments and non government engineering Institutions in 1984 & on words. When it was noticed by the government that the department is administratively burdened high, it was then bifurcated in to seperate directorates i.e. 1. The Directorate of Technical Education 2. The Directorate of Vocational Education and Training. Since then the ITIs are working under the administrative control of The Directorate of Vocational Education and Training .

ITI comes under the CTS Scheme designed by the DGET New Delhi . and runs under the administrative control of Higher & Technical Education Dept. of Government of Maharashtra.

The Industrial Training Institute at Nagothane Dist-Raigad has been introduced vide GR No. TSA 1084/49243/530/TE-4,Dt. 01 August 1984 with 8 conventional Trades . Now at this date the Institute runs 11 different Trades in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical & Automobile Sector, which is the need of local Industries. Moreover we have introduced since August 2008 session, the special training facilities in Chemical Sector, known as COE .
