The Institute was established on 01 jan. 1964 by Mr. Abijit Sen owner of Sen Releigh Industries, Asansol under the name of Sudhir Sen Junior Technical school under the Administrative control of Kanyapur Education Society and financed by Govt. of West bengal. In the year 1965 with the introduction of Junior Diploma courses in Mech. & Electrical stream from 1965 to 1988. H.S. Vocational Courses under H.S. council also continued upto 1990.

With the abolition of kanyapur education society this Institute was renamed as kanyapur Junior Technical School under the Administrative control of another Governing Body with S.D.O. as president and superintendent as secretary.

Since 1990 th institute has been conducting N.C.V.T approved craftsmenship trade courses in the trade of Fitter, Electrician, Mechanist, Draftsmen/Mechanical & welder(gas and electric).

from 1st April 2003 the institute was renamed as Kanyapur Industrial Training Center and Finally on and from 26-11-2010 Govt. of West Bengal has been taken over this institute and it is now named as "ITI KANYAPUR".
