There is no such defined road map to reach State level and International level in cricket. You have to get into a local club first and play local league matches as well as local tournaments. If you play well in local matches, depending upon your age, you may get a chance to take part in Under 15, Under 17 or Under 19 tournaments.

If you perform very well and make your mark, state selectors may pick you up for national level tournaments like Ranji Trophy. The regional selectors for zonal tournaments like Duleep Trophy may also notice you. National level of Indian cricket comprises of these inter-state and inter-regional tournaments. If you play well in these and get noticed by Indian team selectors, you may be picked up for the Indian team and then if the team management thinks that you are good, you may actually play for India one day. If you play well in the state level, you may also get picked up for international level Under 15 or Under 19 tournaments or tours abroad. Playing well in these tournaments may help you to get selected for India A team and go take part in tournaments and series with international teams.

As you can see, there is no clear road map. One, like Parthiv Patel, may take only 3-4 years to play for India and one, like Sanjay Banger, may take 8-9 years to play for India. Moreover, the field is very competitive, as a large number of talented cricketers will eye for a place in the state/ national team. You may have to perform extra-ordinary to seal your place in the team. Its a long and arduous journey.

But you may do well if you go to a local academy and subsequently to National Cricket Academy to hone your cricket skills. It is often easier to get noticed from these academies, as you will have a chance to get in touch with ex-cricketers, who help young cricketers a lot. If you are good, they often help by spreading the word around.
