    My Tests

I have completed B. Sc. (Computers) and I am currently planning to get either and MCA or M. Sc. (Computers) degree through the Sikkim Manipal University, which has a UGC recognition. What is the difference between AICTE and UGC recognition? After finishing this, am I eligible to write GATE for M. Tech (Computers)? Do I get any problems in future regarding the degree from that university?

UGC (University Grant Commission) regulates University education in India. To confer a degree, diploma or any other award, a University in India has to be recognised by the UGC. In turn, a degree, diploma or any other award, unless it is conferred by a UGC recognised University in India, may not be accepted by the employers/ Universities in Indian and abroad as eligibility for higher education.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is an independent body of the Ministry of Education of the Government of India, which regulates the curriculum, and overall quality of technical education in India. Its purview is generally limited to technical Diploma and Degree courses. Unless a technical diploma or degree course is approved by the AICTE, it is not recognised by the employers/ Universities in Indian and abroad as eligibility for higher education.

An M. Sc. in Computer Science does not require an approval by AICTE. And as the Sikkim Manipal University is recognised by the UGC, the degree will certainly make you eligible to appear for GATE and do an M. Tech in Computers. Even an MCA course from this University will not make you ineligible for the GATE but make sure the course is approved by the AICTE to be on the safer side.
