SET (State Eligibility Test) is conducted for appointing lecturers in colleges and Universities in Maharashtra. Candidates who have secured a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate in Master degree examinations are eligible to appear for SET. For SC/ST candidates, the minimum aggregate marks required is 50%.

Candidates who have completed M. Phil or Ph. D on or before 31st December 1993, candidates who have qualified in the UGC/CSIR conducted NET examination and candidates who have cleared any State Level Eligibility Test accredited by the UGC for lectureship are exempted from appearing in the NET examination.

There are three papers in the examination. Paper I is a compulsory general paper for assessment of teaching aptitude of the candidate. It contains questions on reasoning ability and general awareness of the candidate at the level of XIIth standard. Questions on social science, general science and society are asked. The paper contains objective type questions.

Paper II and paper III are subject papers and optional. A candidate can choose any one subject as per his subject of specialisation in Master degree or a related subject. In your case, you can select Psychology. Paper II consists of objective type questions and Paper III consists of short and long answer type questions on the subject of your choice.

Paper I and Paper II carry 100 marks each and of 75 minutes duration. Paper III carry 200 marks and is of 2 hours and 30 minutes duration. Paper III is evaluated only for those candidates who are able to secure a minimum cut-off marks in Paper I and Paper II taken together. You can write all the papers in either Marathi or English language.
